Of course, you are the judge if there really is something we can show off with. And to explain why we suddenly became exhobitionists over night: we are joining the Show Off Your Dog's Wastline Campaign over at Jana and Jasmine Rade's blog Dawg Business.
Look at that waistline:
When you have a look at the infographic on Jana's blog, you can find out if that's an ideal waistline or not. I am blurred when it concerns Kenzo and Viva, they are always ideal to me. And while you are over there, read more why it is so important to keep an eye on your dog's waistline. Jana can explain it a lot better than I can. Knowing Jana, it is probably very important for your dog's health.
To close off with some facts. Viva was obese when we got her, her weight was 50 kg. She is now on a stable 43 kg, which seems a lot for a Hovawart lady, but she is a tall girl, so her waistline is a much better indicator than breed averages. Kenzo had opposite issues before his neutering, as he stopped eating because of all those love bugs in his stomach. He was even down to 39 kg, but after his neutering he is now on a stable weight of 43 kg.
Now show off your dog's waistline.
Hi Kenzo, currently running around chasing squiggles to get back into shape after all those Christmas treats. Have a marvelous Monday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Ha! Can't think of a better and more fun way to stay in shape.
DeleteGeorgia is always on a diet, poor baby. The worst possible scenario for a food obsessed dog! We keep her at around 43 kgs too, down from 47. Just slim enough to spot and feel the ribs. She's the slimmest one in our family ;)
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor Georgia. And you take better care of your dog than yourself! Sounds very familiar :)
DeleteLookin' good, lookin' good! That fur is like CindyLu's, it hides the great waist beneath it. We're very proud since Chester's been on a better food for him - he can show off a waistline, too. No more fat butt ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome Kim! Glad to hear Cindy and Chester doing so good.
DeleteHi Kenzo, thank you for joining the campaign. There does seem to be a waist hiding under the fur :-)
ReplyDeleteOf course, the waist is not the only criteria; there is the ability to feel ribs easily (but it would be hard to take a photo of what you can feel) and tucked belly (but belly can sag a bit for other reasons, such as with Jasmine, after her multiple surgeries). So in order to keep things simple I decided to go with the waistlines :-)
Yes, being thin is SO important for so many aspects of health and longevity; it is really one of the biggest things one can do for their dogs.
On feeling works best, or in Kenzo's case, when he has gone for a swim :)
DeleteLookin' good, Kenzo!
ReplyDeleteYou knew it was Kenzo on the photo!
DeleteKenzo's looking pretty good to me! It's so hard to tell with dogs with more fur. With Shiva almost every muscle is visible to the naked eye so it's easy to keep an eye on her body condition. Of course, it's also easy for others who don't hesitate to voice their opinions at every opportunity. :-P
ReplyDeleteGiven all the potential problems with overweight pets it's good to be aware. Maybe I should be grateful so many strangers care about my dog's health so much!
Thanks for helping to spread the word!
Shiva is the absolute showcase of waistline perfection. I don't know who those others are you talk about, but they clearly have no idea of the ideal dog's waistline :)
DeleteLook at those curves! I think both your dogs have always looked in great shape!
